Clinical Profile

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol (polyol) naturally found in some fruits. It provides about 70% of the sweetness of sugar but contains almost zero calories. Because the human body does not possess the enzymes to break it down, it passes through the system without raising blood sugar or insulin levels.

Clinical Summary

Well-validated as a safe, non-glycemic sweetener that also prevents dental plaque formation.

Dosage Guidelines

Used to taste. Usually limited to under 30-50g per day to avoid gastrointestinal issues.

Safety & Side Effects

Unlike other sugar alcohols, it is highly digestible, but excessive amounts can still cause mild bloating or a laxative effect.

Known Interactions

No known drug interactions.
