Yohimbe (Pausinystalia yohimbe) is a West African tree. Its active alkaloid, Yohimbine, is a potent stimulant that increases adrenaline levels and blood flow. It is a highly controversial but effective ingredient found in extreme pre-workouts and thermogenic fat burners due to its ability to mobilize "stubborn" fat cells.
Clinical Summary
Clinical trials confirm it can significantly accelerate fat loss in lean athletes when taken in a fasted state. It also shows efficacy for improving erectile dysfunction by increasing pelvic blood flow.
Dosage Guidelines
0.2mg per kilogram of body weight (typically 5-15mg of Yohimbine HCl). Must be taken in a completely fasted state, as insulin completely blocks its fat-burning effect.
Safety & Side Effects
High rate of side effects including severe anxiety, jitteriness, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, and cold sweats. Not for the faint of heart.
Known Interactions
Dangerous interactions with MAOIs, antidepressants, blood pressure medications, and other stimulants (caffeine/ephedrine) which compound the cardiovascular stress.
