Fluoride is a natural trace mineral found in water and certain foods. In dentistry and oral health supplements, it is the gold standard for cavity prevention. It works topically by interacting with calcium and phosphate in saliva to form fluorapatite, a compound much more resistant to bacterial acid attacks than natural tooth enamel.

Clinical Summary
Supported by decades of overwhelming clinical evidence for reducing the incidence of dental caries (cavities) and remineralizing early enamel lesions.
Dosage Guidelines
Usually applied topically via toothpaste (1,000 to 1,500 ppm) or mouthwashes. Systemic supplements (drops/tablets) are dosed strictly based on age and local water fluoridation levels.
Safety & Side Effects
Swallowing high amounts of topical fluoride can cause stomach upset. Chronic over-ingestion during childhood tooth development causes dental fluorosis (mottling of enamel).
Known Interactions
Calcium and magnesium supplements can bind to ingested fluoride and decrease its absorption in the gut.
